What is Stretch Film?
Stretch film, also known as stretch wrap, is a plastic film used to wrap around pallets, boxes, or individual products to keep them secure, tight and together. It is very stretchable and helps provide protection against dirt, moisture, and shifting.
Hand Stretch Wrap: Is good for businesses or persons wrapping pallets and other goods manually. Most commonly hand stretch wrap is 1500 foot long rolls making it useable by individuals.
Machine Stretch Wrap: is used where facilities handle high volumes of shipments, making machine-applied stretch film the best choice for speed and efficiency. They usually come in longer rolls 4,000 to 5,000 feet.
Bundling Film: is usually on much smaller rolls to easily wrap smaller items and bundle them together.
Opaque Stretch Film is often used to protect high-value shipments from theft by concealing contents. because you cannot see through it.
Cast vs. Blown Stretch Film: Key Differences
One of the most important factors in choosing the right stretch film is how it’s made. There are two main types: cast and blown stretch film.
Cast: Best for: Warehousing, e-commerce. Lower cost due to more efficient production. Offers excellent clarity, making it easier to scan barcodes and identify products. Quiet unwinding, which is beneficial in noise-sensitive environments
Blown: Best for: Manufacturing, industrial, heavy-duty shipping. Better performance works well in cold storage or humid environments. Created using a blown extrusion process, making it more durable and tear-resistant. – ideal for irregular or sharp loads.
