What are the benefits of open-end(lay flat) poly bags?

Regular Open/Layflat End Poly Bags

Poly bags come in different shapes, sizes, and materials. The most common poly bags are open-end/layflat poly bags. Standard lay flat poly bags are made with the material called Low-density polyethylene ( LDPE)  similar to a sandwich bag without the zip. They usually come clear so you can easily see the product inside. It has three closed sides and one open end to place the product in.

There are different ways to seal an open-end/lay flat poly bag depending on your needs. Some use a staple while others may use tape or even twist ties. There are also bar sealers that can give the open-end poly bag when you seal it, the same look and feel as the three closed sides and makes a great seal for the open-end poly bag.

When sizing a poly bag the dimensions mostly go by width and length. The width dimension goes left to right and the length is top to bottom. Poly bags can be made in different ways. Some are sealed at the bottom which usually creates a little skirt on the bottom of the bag this style only has the seal at the bottom. The other way to make them is a side weld bag. A side welded bag has no bottom seal, but the two sides of the bag will have a seal.

There are also different thicknesses of poly bags called “MILS”. (short for millimeters) The mil thickness of a bag will help determine what strength you need to hold your items. A standard bag is usually 2 mils thick but they come thick to handle more weight. The thicker the bag the more puncture resistant they become.

There are many uses for standard open-end poly bags from storing products for the long term to prevent dust or to organize various type of parts large and small. They also help to keep your products clean and dry. Because they are clear, if you have multiple items you are packing, you do not have to go back and reopen it to see what is inside because of the clarity. Most poly bags come packed in boxes and will have different quantities per box depending on the size and thickness of the poly bag.
